With a passion for nature and conservation, I am committed to supporting biodiverse ecosystems and sustainable gardening practice whenever possible. I endeavour to provide quality creative design with practicality to enable my clients to achieve beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces.
I always try to work with indigenous European species, ensuring the right plants are used in the right places, with a focus on design impact and planting that encourages local species to flourish. I am passionate about designing gardens that mitigate the affects of climate change with sustainable approaches that have a beneficial and balanced impact on the local environment.
The process begins with an initial site visit, where I will collect information on the garden, and discuss your requirements and aspirations. I will then produce an initial visual brief, which can be referred to throughout the design process.
The next stage often involves a topographical (site) survey, which I can organise on your behalf. This maps accurately the whole garden including anything underground, before the design process begins. We will then have established with 100% accuracy the position of the space in relation to the house, boundaries, pipes drains, cables, and existing trees. However, If just a more simple planting plan for existing borders is all that is required then a survey may not be necessary.
Once we have confirmed the requirements, the following stage is to produce some initial designs. I always aim to complete these designs within four to six weeks after receiving the topographical survey.
The designs will be presented to scale using the VectorWorks landscape design software. I will then arrange a further site meeting to discuss these initial plans and then make any required alterations. I will then produce the finalised master plan with a perspective drawing (which can either be hand drawn or digitally generated).
Once all this is agreed, I will produce setting out plans and construction drawings and lighting plans if required, which will be sent out for tender for contractors to provide accurate quotes on. Once the actual garden build begins I am happy to be a point of contact for you with your chosen contractor.
While this process is underway, planting concepts can be discussed, and I will produce some concept art with a detailed planting plan, which will include plant quantities. I am also able to provide a maintenance plan if required.
When the plants and trees arrive on site, I can arrange to lay them out ready for planting. The actual planting or seeding can be carried out by us, or a specialised team, depending on the size of the site. I recommend that the planting of mature trees is carried out by relevant tree nurseries.
